| Here is one very heavy-blooming annual that needs no deadheading and always looks as though it just opened it first blooms! That's because unlike other Heleniums, 'Goldfield' sets its new bloomstems just above the older flowers on the plant, so the new blooms constantly cover up the old! What a neat trick -- and especially welcome on a plant so long-blooming and floriferous that it sets hundreds and hundreds of bright yellow-gold daisies in just a single season! 'Goldfield' is a tremendous improvement for the Helenium family, far more free flowering than older varieties, and with its unique "cover up" habit. The flowers are generally 2 inches wide (sometimes a bit smaller in the hottest weeks of summer), with a daisy shape and slightly downturned petals, like bright hula skirts. The large central gold cone is the perfect landing pad for butterflies and bees, so get your camera ready! Very adaptable to a variety of soils, including dry conditions, 'Goldfield' is set to bloom all summer and even into fall in warmer climates. The plant reaches a neat 20 inches high and about 16 inches wide, so you can grow it in containers as well as in the sunny annual bed, as edging, or in mass plantings. All it needs is sunshine and well-drained soil! Pkt is 100 seeds. |
