| Once in a blue moon a new seed variety comes along that's so spectacular it's awarded a Gold Medal from the All-America Selection Committee, and Fresh Look Red has walked away with this honor! Simply the finest Wheat Celosia ever grown, it offers so many advantages over older varieties it might as well be a new species! You'll get larger, brighter blooms and many more of them from well-branched plants; a super-long season of bloom; and a terrific adaptability to just about any climate and soil! Start designing your sunny beds and borders around this miraculous new Wheat Celosia today! Even if it hadn't won top honors, Fresh Look Red was already tops in my book, just for how it's performed in our trial gardens this year. Not only did it outlast every other Celosia (by weeks, not days!), but the individual blooms are much more eye-catching than others. The color is vivid, and the flowerstems reach up to 10 inches high on neat little plants just 12 to 16 inches tall and wide! Best of all from my point of view, Fresh Look Red never needs deadheading! New blooms and leaves spring up all around the old ones, keeping this plant looking as fresh in its third month of bloom as it did in its third week! The flowers are awe-inspiring, but the vigor and adaptability of this Celosia really make it a sure bet in just about any garden. It needs full sun and appreciates good garden soil, but once it gets going, Fresh Look Red isn't about to be slowed down by heat, drought, or pests. It takes off with strong lateral branches that keep the blooms coming all summer long, and needs very little attention from you. Fresh Look Red has an AAS Award-winning sister, Yellow, and the two make a fine combo in the sunny annual bed or large containers. I think they also look terrific with ornamental Peppers, Floss Flowers, and Rose Mosses, among others. With giant spires of brilliant red, you really can't go wrong! Start this seed indoors in late winter, about 8 to 10 weeks before last anticipated frost. The seed germinates in about 10 days and will begin blooming about 70 to 100 days after sowing. Pkt is 100 seeds. |
