| Shorter than Mondo Grass and presenting a more formal, tighter look, this evergreen ground cover is well-suited to Japanese gardens, bonsai, containers, and border edging. Its low-growing habit also makes it a fine no-mow alternative to turf in small areas. Forming compact, deep green mounds of grass-like foliage, Nana also tops itself with small white flowers in summer and metallic blue berries in fall although they both tend to be obscured by the foliage. Nana will tolerate full sun but prefers some shade, especially in southern climates. It is also not fussy about soil but will do best in moist areas. It provides excellent erosion control on slopes water runoff is a problem and will spread slowly to form a lush evergreen mat. Space 3 to 10 inches apart. Zones 6-10. |
