95 to 100 days from sowing. We're calling Rumbo a pumpkin, but this winter squash from Korea actually defies classification! Despite its appearance, it tastes nothing like a pumpkin -- its flavor is sweeter than Acorn Squash and not at all stringy, and the fruits themselves are much more dense, giving you extra meat in every bite. Combine this with their heavy yields, stunning burnt-caramel color (with golden-orange flesh inside!), and great holding ability, and you've got the perfect holiday decoration -- all the great looks of a Pumpkin with far superior flavor!Expect many, many fruits from each vine of this super-easy Squash. They measure about 5 to 7 inches deep and a foot wide, yet weigh 14 to 15 pounds -- much heavier than other Squashes of that size! The filling is all meat -- fewer strings and none of that stringy flavor you find in pumpkins! This is one of the best eating Squashes I have ever tasted, superb for baking in pies, breads, soups, and stews as well as straight from the oven with a little butter! You don't even need to add brown sugar -- Rumbo is sweet enough all by itself! And Rumbo looks as good as it tastes. Round and slightly flattened, the deeply furrowed shell is a burnt caramel color and has a glossy finish that almost looks waxed. This covering protects it well from the elements, making Rumbo among the longest-storing winter squashes you will find. Perfect -- a huge harvest that you don't need to eat all at once! And it holds up well in the home as holiday decoration, too! Winter Squash is easy to grow, given adequate space and patience! Sow the seeds outdoors when danger of frost is past, or start indoors in peat pots. Plant the seedlings (or thin to) 3 to 5 feet apart. Pkt is 25 seeds. |
