A Hummingbird Magnet!
This native naturalizes freely in the sunny to partly shaded garden.
Syn. 'Rotstern.' One of the most beautiful native Columbines, Red Star greets spring each year with a generous show of long-spurred, upturned rosy-red and white blooms. Intricately patterned and so beautiful, they make lovely cutflowers and are delightful in the sunny to partly shaded garden, summoning hummingbirds to come sip! When in bloom this plant is 18 to 24 inches tall and wide; without its long-stemmed flowers, it reaches about 8 to 10 inches high. A good choice for the border, it naturalizes freely over time, increasing your show of beauty with each passing year. Give it full sun in northern climates, a bit of afternoon or dappled shade farther south. Zones 3-8.
