Sweet-Scented Ebony Blooms!
A standout in our garden trials -- not only for color, but floriferousness and long season, too!
Nearly black and a full 3 1/2 inches wide, these splendid spicy-sweet blooms give that beloved old cottage garden favorite, Sweet William, a stylish new look! Very heavily borne on showy, hard-working little plants, these flowers are just about the brightest, boldest thing in the spring and summer garden, contrasting beautifully with all your bulbs and bright annuals! Tuxedo Black is a hardy biennial that you should plant in fall or winter for blooms the following May to August -- it needs a cold period to flower, and will reward your foresight with LOTS of fragrant blooms over a long season. The plant is just 16 to 24 inches tall and about 10 to 12 inches wide, so the big blooms really dwarf the foliage and stand out from across the street! One of the big stars of our trial gardens last year, Tuxedo Black just radiated dark tones among white and pink neighboring plants, and would make a super companion to Dianthus Amazon Neon Rose, too. Bold red Dianthus Desmond would make a fragrant neighbor, and any of the dwarf Magellan Zinnias (especially Ivory!) would be stunning for a black-and-white design. This biennial will bloom very heavily for two years, with strong stems that are ideal for cutflowers. (Plan to plant a few extra just for cutting purposes! They make terrific accents in the vase.) Zones 3-9. Pkt is 50 seeds.
