Long-lasting Creamy Blooms and Fragrant Foliage!
The bees love this new ornamental basil!
More beautiful than most flowering annuals, this fragrant basil will bring bees and compliments to your garden! Magical Michael is a very floriferous, wonderfully scented mounded plant. We grew it in our trial gardens last summer, and it attracted more bees than other plant we have ever grown, period. The plant forms a nice, plump mound 12 to 18 inches tall and 12 to 17 inches wide, topped by hundreds (maybe thousands!) of tiny cream-colored flowers (from purple calyces) all summer long. The foliage is so fragrant that to brush against it is to start your mouth watering for Italian food! This is a perfect choice for the vegetable garden as well as the border and bed, because it repels aphids, mites, and tomato hornworms. Because it's low in oils, it's not the most flavorful basil we know (that would probably be Large Leaf Italian for Neapolitan cuisine or Thai Siam Queen for Oriental), but the scent, bees, and pest protection more than compensate! Magical Michael is certain to become a classic in patio containers, along the edges of sunny walkways, and anywhere color, fragrance, and form are needed. It thrives in blazing sun and is very easy to grow. No wonder it won a 2002 All America Selections award! Grow in a rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Pinch out growing tips to encourage bushier plants. Pkt is 100 seeds.
