Big Crops and Unbeatable Flavor!
One of the last to mature, with fat, flavorful cloves.
100 days. Save the best for last with this late-maturing, richly flavored artichoke Garlic! Boasting very heavy yields of plump, well-filled cloves, 'Italian Late' has been a gardeners' favorite for many years. This softneck Garlic sports very large outer cloves well wrapped in papery white coverings, which helps increase the storage time. Expect 'Italian Late' to keep for 6 to 9 months without losing a bit of its flavor. And what flavor it is! Rich, intense, very aromatic, and strong, this is the garlic lovers' garlic! To grow this Garlic, work some humus or other organics into rich, loose soil. Set the bulbs about 6 inches apart in rows 1 foot or more apart. Push the bulbs 2 inches below the soil line, with the plump, rounded side down (like a Tulip bulb). A heavy layer of mulch is recommended, as well as regular feedings with a balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10. When the leaves have turned brown, the crop is ready to harvest. Pull up the bulb and, with the leaves still attached, let it dry in the sun for a few hours. Then spread it out in a dry, well-ventilated place until the leaves are papery (typically 2 to 3 weeks). Unless you are saving the tops to braid them, cut them off after the curing period and store the bulbs in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location. Set of 10.
