Plant Patent Applied For. A tremendous improvement over older Butterfly Bushes with their huge, rambly habits, this British introduction is compact and very heavy-blooming over a long, late season. Boasting rich lilac-blue blooms in foot-long trusses, it is superb for cutting as well as garden enjoyment. And butterflies and hummingbirds take notice! The flowers are sweetly scented of honey and very, very profuse, beginning in midsummer and not ending until the chilly weather of mid-fall sets in. Just 6 feet high (half the size of most other Buddleias!) and 4 to 5 feet wide, 'Butterfly Heaven' is a good height for the foundation as well as the sunny border. Create a vibrant, fragrant hedge along the driveway or a living wall through the backyard with this quick-growing, beautiful plant. The new spring foliage emerges gray on 'Butterfly Heaven', keeping this color until summer, when it turns soft green. Over its long season of bloom, the trusses grow a bit smaller ("only" 8 to 10 inches at season's end -- ha!) but just as profuse, keeping your vases filled for three months or more. And like most Butterfly Bushes, it's quite easy to grow in any sunny, well-drained spot. Cut it to the ground in late winter to encourage better branching and even more blooms next season. 'Butterfly Heaven' makes a fine companion to another heat-loving late bloomer, double-flowered Hibiscus Sugar Tip™, and is a fine backdrop to flowering perennials from Echinacea to Salvia. It tolerates heat, humidity, and drought brilliantly, and isn't troubled by poor soil once it becomes established in your garden. Deer leave it alone, but butterflies and hummingbirds pay homage by the dozen! Make this fine plant a focal point of your sunny garden this season! Zones 5-10.
