Giant 7-inch Blooms Just Keep Repeating!
Its gorgeous edging and eyezoning have won this evergreen Daylily many awards.
Inevitably a scene-stealer, 'Julie Newmar' is among the largest and most distinctively patterned Daylilies in the world. Its blooms reach 7 inches wide, with distinctive ruffled edges, a bold eyezone, and exquisite veining. Prepared to bloom early in Daylily season and then repeat 'til fall, it is vigorous and easy to grow. If you add only one Daylily to the sunny garden this season, please make it 'Julie Newmar'! The three lower petals are a uniform shade of pale apricot, giving little hint of the drama going on above. The three upper petals, also a light shade of apricot/peach, are eyezoned and edged in the same maroon-purple (with flashes of gold) hue, with the edging so pencil-thin that it just outlines every ruffled petal edge. Add a bold green throat and the look is complete! 'Julie Newmar' has won awards just for its color patterning, and one glance shows you why! Flowering most heavily early in Daylily season, the blooms continue to appear all summer on plants 32 inches high, 18 to 24 inches wide. This is a tall, vigorous Daylily, ready to show off in the border, mass plantings, and containers. It is large enough to use as a backdrop for compact varieties such as 'Secured Borders, and makes an outstanding edging for the driveway and other hot, dry soils. Daylilies are one of the easiest perennials to grow, very low maintenance and willing to put up with extreme conditions from heat and humidity to drought and cold. They tolerate less-than-perfect soil, and ask only to be divided every few years to maintain their flowering vigor and multiply their beauty into new plants! A superb choice for busy gardeners, they tolerate partial shade but bloom most heavily in full sun. 'Julie Newmar,' introduced by Morss in 2000 and boasting 'Fortune's Dearest' and 'Gerda Brooker' in its parentage, is a truly exceptional variety, guaranteed to delight over many, many years. Order it early to avoid disappointment, and as you divide it in years to come, share a few with gardening friends. Beauty this rare and breathtaking should be spread! Zones 5-9.
