The Rare and Unique White-Leaved Daylily!
The new leaves emerge pure white in spring, with just a slender stripe of green.
Variegated Daylilies are rare enough, but this white-leaved variety -- boasting just a thin stripe of dark green up the center when the foliage appears in spring! -- is truly amazing. Not only is it bred from 'Hyperion,' perhaps the most famous heirloom variety of all, but it adds an entire second season of beauty to the summer display of flower color with its fantastic "ghostly" foliage! Just a foot high but spreading 18 inches or so in the sunny garden, 'Secured Borders' begins spring with pure white leaves very narrowly striped in green. This pattern holds all season, until the hotter temperatures of summer cause the leaves to acquire more green tones and eventually become solid. By then the leaves are topped with masses of solid yellow blooms, faintly fragrant and irresistible to butterflies! 'Secured Borders' was introduced by Virginia breeders Walter and Sybil Przypek in 2005, and we are delighted to be able to offer it this season. Very adaptable from north to south, it is a lovely choice for the front of the border, edging pathways, and accent plantings. The flowers arise on short, sturdy stalks, giving the plant a neat and contained appearance in contrast with some of the larger and longer-stemmed Daylilies. You MUST try this one-of-a-kind beauty! Daylilies are one of the easiest perennials to grow, very low maintenance and willing to put up with extreme conditions from heat and humidity to drought and cold. They tolerate less-than-perfect soil, and ask only to be divided every few years to maintain their flowering vigor and multiply their beauty into new plants! A superb choice for busy gardeners, they tolerate partial shade but bloom most heavily in full sun. Zones 3-9.
