This "Day-and-a-Half" Lily Repeats All Season!
Pastel tones combine beautifully on a super-vigorous, long-lived, easy-care plant.
Every shade of pastel beauty seems to combine on these large blooms, plus elegant ruffling, a dramatic stripe down the center of the top layer of petals, and even a distinctive sweet fragrance! Opening the night before their "day" of bloom and remaining sweet and fresh even in punishing heat and humidity, 'Veins of Truth' is a truly exceptional Daylily, blooming most heavily in early summer and then repeating all the way 'til fall! The lower peals of these giant 5-inch blooms are a combination of soft gold an apricot, very slightly ruffled along their creamy edges and stroked with pencil-thin veins of slightly darker peach. They provide a lovely backdrop for the large, far more dramatic upper petals, offering a very large rose eyezone shading into pink with a cream stripe and edging. Add the luminous chartreuse throat, and this utterly unique bloom is complete! 'Veins of Truth' is what we at Park like to call a "day and a half" Lily, because it begins its show the evening before its day of bloom, perfuming the garden and delighting the eye with its soft tones. Evergreen in warm climates and hardy right through zone 10, this is an exceptionally vigorous plant, thanks to its tetraploid (double chromosomes) breeding. Even if your summers have proven a challenge to some Daylilies, 'Veins of Truth' will withstand heat, humidity, and even drought! This plant reaches 2 to 2 1/2 feet high and about 1 1/2 to 2 feet high. It reblooms generously right up 'til fall, making a splendid choice for mass plantings, accents, and borders. Of course, its beauty can also be enjoyed at close range in containers on the baking-hot deck or front steps. This is a plant to feature in hot and dry garden trouble spots as well as front and center in the best displays. Daylilies are one of the easiest perennials to grow, very low maintenance and willing to put up with extreme conditions from heat and humidity to drought and cold. They tolerate less-than-perfect soil, and ask only to be divided every few years to maintain their flowering vigor and multiply their beauty into new plants! A superb choice for busy gardeners, they tolerate partial shade but bloom most heavily in full sun. 'Veins of Truth,' introduced by noted breeder Hansen in 2000 and never bettered for color patterning, fragrance, size, and vigor, is a superb selection that may well become your favorite Daylily of all. Zones 5-10.
