Most Japanese Iris are boldly colored, but this near-white variety is soft, billowy, and very clean, just a few slender purple stripes breaking the color. The petals are very broad, overlapping, and slightly recurved, giving the impression that the flower is double! But it isn't -- just a perfect Japanese Iris for your best border, meadow, or cutting garden! 'Lace Ruff' was introduced in 1986 by Ackerman, and has been a gardeners' favorite ever since. The violet veins and soft lavender-blue styles add interest to these lightly pleated petals, held atop 2-foot stems. And 'Lace Ruff' effortlessly complements all surrounding plants, making the garden shine just a little more brightly! Best in full sun in the north, partial shade farther south, this Iris blooms from early to midsummer in most climates. It multiplies over time, so divide it every few years for even more beauty in the Iris garden. And for companions, consider Japanese Iris 'Katy Mendez,' a splendid deep purple variety that makes the white blooms really pop out! Zones 4-9.
