Columbine 'Tower Dark Blue'
Aquilegia vulgaris 'Tower Dark Blue'
Columbine 'Tower Dark Blue':
Begin the perennial display early with this spring-blooming beauty.

The Darkest Blue Yet -- and Double-Flowered!
Lovely for cutting, and in the garden, hummingbirds can't resist them!

One of the first perennials to bloom in spring, Columbine is a delightful addition to the garden, its richly colored, spurred blooms making fine cuts as well as hummingbird magnets in the border. We are very proud to introduce a new Columbine to the family -- 'Tower Dark Blue,' with fully double blooms of the deepest, most intense blue we have ever seen. Complementing all the yellows and pinks of spring-blooming bulbs and lasting even into summer in most climates, this is an exceptional plant, destined to be the showpiece of your garden.

The blooms are short-spurred, unlike the dramatic form of Columbines such as 'Winky Purple and White' (which makes a great companion planting, by the way). The petals, slender and very closely set, appear in dense layers around a frilly yellow throat. Hummingbirds adore them, and so will you -- and no matter how quickly or warmly summer arrives, they won't fade in the sun!

'Tower Dark Blue' reaches more than 2 feet high and about 18 inches wide in sun (in northern climates) to partial shade (farther south and southwest). Its long stems are ideal for cutting, and its deep color makes the lighter tones of the garden pop out even more boldly. Easy to grow in well-drained soil enriched with organics, this is a spring bloomer not to be missed. Zones 4-8.
