Fragrant Multicolored Flowers with Two Seasons of Bloom!
These are "extended blooms," open for a long 16-hour day (just right for evening entertaining!)
One of the most beautiful Daylilies to come along in years, 'Rainbow Candy' is as long-lasting, vigorous, and great in the garden as it is lovely! Not only is it pleasantly fragrant, but it reblooms reliably, and the flowers stay open for an "extended day" -- giving you extra hours of magnificent color on every stem! 'Rainbow Candy' delights with early- to midseason blooms of cream, richly overlaid with a purplish-pewter and yellow eyezone and a bold green throat. The flowers measure 4 1/2 inches across, and release a very sweet fragrance that becomes stronger as the summer heat sets in. Expect these blooms to stay open for 16 hours -- from early morning right through evening! (They're so long-blooming that maybe we should call them 'day-and-a-half' lilies!) Thick, heavily-textured petals keep the blooms looking fresh and clean no matter what the weather. 'Rainbow Candy' is a good variety for cutting and floating in a bowl of water for extra-special occasions, when one day of bloom is exactly what you need from your indoor arrangement! And then, when you've enjoyed weeks of luscious bloom and summer is winding down, 'Rainbow Candy' reappears for an encore! This flush of late-season color is particularly welcome in the garden, arriving just as the bright summer-flowering annuals and perennials are beginning to look a bit past it! This plant reaches about 28 inches tall and a foot wide, with cascading grassy foliage. It's compact enough for containers, yet makes a big garden impact as a ground cover, edging, or border standout. Like all Daylilies, it is exceptionally easy to grow, thriving in just about any sunny, well-drained spot. Once established in your garden, it is very forgiving of heat, humidity, drought, and poor soil -- not only will it thrive, it will spread, and you can divide the plant every few years to double your flower power and give away new plants to friends. Combine 'Rainbow Candy' with yellow or pink Daylilies, as well as with all your summer-flowering perennials in the sun-soaked garden. It also makes a nice choice for the bulb garden, where its fresh, cascading foliage helps hide the dying-back leaves of Daffodils in late spring. Wherever you plant it, 'Rainbow Candy' will flourish for many years with a minimum of help from you! Enjoy this super-easy, super-beautiful plant! Zones 4-9.
