Japanese Barberry Crimson Pygmy
Berberis thunbergii var. atropurpurea Crimson Pygmy
Japanese Barberry Crimson Pygmy: Vibrant red berries stand out against the crimson/purple leaves of this hardy bush.
Berries accent this shrub from fall through winter!

A Splash of Color for the Landscape!
Deep crimson leaves coupled with brilliant red berries create a delightful winter display!

This highly adaptable miniature deciduous shrub is perfect for the individual interested in a colorful hedge or a bright addition to a rock garden. Its small oval leaves range in color from a deep crimson to purple, displaying their purest hues when planted in direct sun. The Crimson Pygmy exhibits small yellow flowers in the spring, but its true beauty is discovered as it flaunts bright red, bead-like berries that decorate its branches from fall through the winter months!

This small beautiful shrub (growing to a height of 2 feet with a 3-foot spread) is easily grown in dry to medium, well-drained soils, happily accepting pruning and transplanting. It is hardy in zones 4-8 and has proven to be tolerant of a number of pollutants in urban areas. You will love the Crimson Pygmy in groups or as a solitary unique specimen that is sure to appeal to all who see it!
