Organic. Also called Mother Onion or Potato Onion, the Yellow Multiplier Onion is a favorite of many old-time gardeners and self-sufficiency enthusiasts because once you plant it, you're always stocked with delicious, flavorful onions! Each bulb you plant will produce a cluster of up to twelve 2- to 4-inch onions that keep for up to a year. A spring sowing will produce smaller onions, but fall-sown bulbs will produce the largest onions of all thanks to a longer growing period. Their zesty, but not too strong flavor is in high demand in gourmet restaurants, and you'll see why with just one bite! Harvest fresh green onions for salads and crudites, allow some bulbs to ripen to slicing size, and then replant the rest to infinitely prolong your harvest! Yellow Multiplier Onions are more resistant to drought than other onion varieties, but consistent and regular watering will produce the biggest and most flavorful bulbs. They are adaptable to a wide range of growing conditions, but they'll grow best in well-drained garden soil in all but the hottest zones (Zones 10-12). Plant individual bulbs 1 to 2 inches deep in spring, but place bulbs 2 to 3 inches deep and cover heavily with mulch in cooler regions when planting in the fall. Space bulbs about 6 inches apart in rows 18 inches apart.
