Every Part of this Plant is Edible!
Mild, garlicky bite.
(Days to maturity depends on the parts of the plant being harvested.) Every garden deserves this wonderful plant, and with our Certified Organic seed, you can be sure you're growing the absolute best, most natural Garlic Chives. Whether you use it as a seasoning in cuisine (which we strongly recommend!) or simpy as a pest repellent in the annual, perennial, or rose garden (also a terrific option for this perennial!), this long-lived, easy care sun-lover is a must-have.
Every part of this plant is edible, from its small bulb to its flat (not hollow, like other chives') stems to its white blooms and even its tiny black seeds. A long-lived perennial, it asks for nothing more than to be divided every few years, so you can share the wealth with friends or find even more garden space in which to tuck the compact little plant. After all, at just a foot high and wide, it uses little space and delivers big rewards! The small bulbs this plant forms are edible, though you won't want to eat them unless you're dividing the plant or have too many extras for your available space. The stems are delectable, and can be cut as they regrow all season, or allowed to set flowers first. The blooms are white clusters, quite ornamental and a lovely addition to salads and as garnish. Even the seeds impart a peppery bite to all your dishes! Just 12 inches high and about 18 inches wide, garlic chives thrives in full sun and any well-drained soil. It is attractive to butterflies and 'good bugs,' and does a good job of keeping destructive insects away from nearby plants, so is useful as a perimeter planting around the vegetable patch, rose garden, and other garden displays. It's great in containers, too! Expect it to reseed if you do not harvest it before the seeds scatter. Zones 3-11. Pkt is 100 seeds.
