Park's Original Bio Dome 60 Cell Seed Starter

Description / Park's Original Bio Dome 60 Cell Seed Starter
When we say that this seed-starting system from Europe is revolutionary, we really mean it! Now you can start your favorite vegetables and flowers indoors, for earlier crops at a fraction of the cost of buying plants. And you can select the varieties YOU want (not the half-dozen choices the local garden center picked out), confident that with Park's Bio Dome, your seeds will sprout and your sprouts will transplant easily into the garden.
This little powerhouse from Holland bears almost no resemblance to other seed kits, which tend to produce spindly sprouts with curled-up roots and limp stems. Park's Bio Dome seedlings grow to a uniform height and width, thanks to the spacious distance between each growing cell. And our growing mediumthe Bio Spongeencourages root growth downward, NOT in an upward spiral that eventually strangles the plant.
With the Bio Dome, you place only one seed in each Bio Sponge, which really helps stretch out today's smaller seed-count packets. The only seeds unsuitable for the Bio Dome are very large ones (which you would want to direct-sow, anyway) and root vegetables needing space to grow their tuber (carrots, beets, radishes, etc). Everything else, from impatiens to petunias to tomatoes, does beautifully in these perfectly constructed Bio Sponges.
Before and after germination, your seeds receive just as much light, water, heat, and air circulation as they need, thanks to the adjustable vents and bottom-tray watering design of Park's Bio Dome. This environment offers such great growth conditions to the emerging seedlings that Bio Dome plants are usually ready to transplant a bit quicker than other seedlingsand they suffer virtually no transplant shock in the garden.
Product consists of:
Bio Dome itself (green bottom tray and vented clear plastic top)
Planting block
60 Bio sponges
Seedling food
Complete instructions
If you're new to using the Bio Dome, let us sing the praises of this, our most POPULAR PRODUCT OF ALL TIME. Customers love it, and even experienced seed starters like us, who have been dropping Marigold seeds into the soil since pre-school, have come to make the Bio Dome the ONLY SEED STARTING SYSTEM WE NEED. Here's why:
Climate Control: you can remove the clear vent as the plants grow, but at first, especially if you're starting seeds in late winter, it's a real boost of warmth and humidity! And the two adjustable vents at the top make sure that your plants get good air circulation at all times.
Incredible Rooting Medium: in each hole of the polystyrene planting tray is what we call a "bio sponge," a pre-formed plug of sterile medium with a hole already drilled in the top. The bio sponge is simply the best way we've ever found to reliably germinate and grow on seeds. We plant 1ONLY ONEseed in each bio sponge, even for difficult-to-germ varieties, and they nearly always sprout. (The only seeds you don't want to grow in the Bio Dome are those of root vegetables like carrots, beets, and radishesthey need more space to grow their tuber than the bio sponge allows.) In all our years, we've just never had results like this from any other seed-starting medium, and we've tried them all twice. The bio sponge offers the perfect blend of aeration and moisture to help seeds of all kinds grow and cuttings to root.
Bottom Watering: you water the base of this tray, NOT the bio sponges themselves. Put enough lukewarm water into the base so that the polystyrene tray floats. The bio sponges will wick up just the water they need. And as your plants grow, their roots will go down and out, instead of spiraling or fanning out near the surface as you often see with top-watered seedlings. It's impossible to over-water the Bio Dome.
Root Strength: this goes along with #3these seedlings form LOTS of roots and grow them straight down and out, so that when it comes time to transplant the seedling, you can see roots sticking out all over the sides and bottom of the bio sponge.
Ease of Transplant: none of this business of transplanting the plug into a pot and then transplanting the plant out of the pot and into the soil. When you start your seeds in the Bio Dome, they can be transplanted straight into their final home. The bio sponge holds together, but the roots fan out easily beyond the sponge and into the garden or container soil.
Refills of the Bio Sponges are always available here at Park. And if you want bigger seedlings, we have a 40-cell and even an 18-cell size too. The good news is that their planting blocks fit into your standard Bio Dome, so you can swap out the planting blocks without having to purchase another Bio Dome. But if you're like us, you'll have 2 or 3 always full of seeds and seedlings before you know it.

Excellent product 2 people found this helpfulEasy to set up and plants are doing well. I used a heat mat to speed up germination and am very happy with the results. I own two bio domes.

Whatever you do don't drop it 2 people found this helpfulI sat the dome lid on the seat of a chair and it fell to the floor and left a huge hole in it. It fell maybe 2 feet. Very disappointing for the price. Only used for 1 week.
-
Great product 3 people found this helpfulLove the one I’ve had for years, so I ordered another. Only 4 stars because the vents didn’t slide. Had to pop them out and file the clear plastic flashing out of the slots for them to work properly. Not a problem for me but should be addressed by the manufacturer.
-
Disappointing 2 people found this helpfulI got this 60 plug one last year and had very little luck. I ended up with only 5 plant starters. I have used similar styles before and was excited to get this one because of the stronger lid. As there is so many good reviews I may try again. Not sure what way to go - just order refills or get new 40 plug style.

Works well 1 people found this helpfulI had a very high germination rate for the seeds I started in this product. I look forward to using it more next season!

I love this Bio Dome 60 1 people found this helpfulI just got my Bio Dome on Monday and I planted Seeds that night. I only planted 18 mini Romaine seeds, but it is now 3 days later, and 16 of the 18 plants have already sprouted. I am shocked that they sprouted this fast. I have also now ordered the Bio Dome Jumbo 40 which is due to arrive tomorrow. Today, I plan on finishing the rest of the empty united on the 60. I just couldn't wait to say how fast these sprouted. Amazing.

Great Product!! 1 people found this helpfulThe Park Seed Starter is sturdy and well-made. My seedlings are thriving. I purchased a seed-starting kit from a competitor, and it was flimsy and awkward to use. I also purchased another competitor's product from Walmart, and it was of very poor quality. I'm hoping to start moving my seedlings into my Vegogarden raised bed in the next two weeks.

Seed starter supreme 1 people found this helpfulThis is the way to go if you grow from seed. 100% .Has no equal. I grew tired of buying plants from greenhouses etc for large tomatoes and ending up with grape tomatoes or tommy toes and having to buy tomatoes to can. You can start your seeds earlier also. I've used the bio dome system since they came out. Rated A+

Thin and tall seedlings 1 people found this helpfulHi, I have this and I noticed the seedlings are very tall and thin. Was wondering if this was because of the height of the dome. Any suggestions?
-
Seed starting dome 1 people found this helpfulI planted my seeds 6 days ago and all have germinated and these seeds were at least 2 years old. It is a lot of plants in a small area. I am very pleased with this dome. I definitely recommend this product for anyone who loves gardening like I do.

this system make great plugs for your garden and flower pots 0 people found this helpfulthis system make great plugs for your garden and flower pots. Very easy to germinate from seed to transplant in yard or outdoors. keeps moist medium and seeds for most for the perfect % for germination. a good buy and reusable with replaceable plugs. Mine have lasted over 10 years.

The Dome is great, skip the starter plugs 2 people found this helpfulI bought this dome last winter to start my garden plants for this summer. The dome is well-built and solid and works like you would want it to in giving the right mix of warmth and humidity to germinate the seeds. The starter plugs are spongy and advertised to be easily transplanted into a larger pot, or into your garden space. The plugs did yield nearly 100% germination of the seeds but the material really led to a weird failure to thrive issue for my jalapenos, Sakura tomatoes and the gray poppies I was looking forward to having (alas). The rate of growth of the plants is weirdly slow. I reused the dome with biodegradable pots and regular soil for other plants and it worked fine and those are growing as expected. The peppers look healthy, but just the same size they have been for weeks. If you get the dome, use your own pots inside and very much skip the plugs.

Parks Biodome 0 people found this helpfulI've been using this for a couple of years now, along with the Parks seeds. This year the seedlings sprouted in two days. I only started the seeds two weeks ago and they are already big enough to repot. I was late starting my seeds this year or they probably would be starting to bloom. The Biodome is worth every penny. You won't regret it.

Bought 2, Everybody laughed at first now I'm the first with seedlings 0 people found this helpfulPrice was a little steep I thought. Other family members thought I was crazy for buying this. It actually works. Set it and forget it! Now I wish they made a bigger version for larger plants!

Very unhappy with your customer service 4 people found this helpfulI called your company - referred to email by a recording. Sent an email - no answer. You have multiple discrepancies with your instructions. I was concerned because in one set of directions it states the growth medium is ready to place into the planting block. In another place it says to submerge the sponges in water before placing. In your written instructions it states to fertilize **when the first set of true leaves appear**. In your video, the fertilizer is added on set up. Many of my seeds have sprouted, but my cuke's first leaves are oddly curling downward - a sign of over watering (I soaked the sponges per included directions). I'd think, for the prices you get for your products, and the generous shipping fees, you'd be more prepared to clarify the confusion your inconsistencies make.

Deceiving 2 people found this helpfulDeceiving, I followed the YouTube videos for this product. This is not my first time doing seeds. After one month the entire tray has died. It looked healthy, and then something happened Overnight and they all started to die. I will not see this way again. I will go back to the old fashion way. Not happy.

Simplicity in seed starting 0 people found this helpfulA fellow master gardener friend (Rofus ) suggested this system for germinating seeds. I looked over Park seed company and decided to try it out. I am extremely satisfied with the quality and ease of use. It seems germination times area much quicker. The plugs are very convenient and I can bring the whole thing inside and not worry about the mess. I spouted Tomato , Luffa gourd, Peppers they all did well. I made the mistake of top watering with fish emulsion and created a serious issue with rot. Just add the nutrients and bottom water adjusting vents according to your climate. Ie heat light . I would recommend this Bio dome system to beginners as well as seasoned growers. Lets get growing.
