Description / Mini Romaine Blend Lettuce Seeds

Days to Maturity: 45 from direct sow

Now you can grow baby Romaine that matures quickly yet has all the flavor and texture associated with full sized varieties. This seed packet contains equal parts Truchas and Breen, two superior varieties for space-saving, quick-crop delectability.

Mini Romaine Blend Lettuce Seeds Includes:

Truchas: is an upright, very disease-resistant Romaine with crimson leaves. Just 6 to 8 inches at maturity, it offers a deliciously fresh, tender bite that manages to stay crisp while also being succulent and mild. Exceptional resistance to downy mildew, tomato bushy stunt viruys, and lettuce mosaic virus.

Breen: is a slower-growing, medium red babyleaf with wide, succulent foliage that can be harvested leaf by leaf or whole-head. The perfect complement to Truchas, it stands up to downy mildew and offers rich color as well as complex flavor.

Lettuce thrives in cold weather and can be sown directly into the garden, starting in early spring. For an even earlier harvest, sow indoors; the seedlings don't mind transplanting. If a fall crop is desired, begin in late summer. Grow in single rows, plants spaced 18 inches apart, or in containers.

Slow to start but delicious once ready! 1 people found this helpful

Bought these seeds a few years ago and forgot about them. Put three into hydro garden pods (one per pod) and one grew into a beautiful head. Not a super tight head of lettuce but that's better as we use it as a cut and come again lettuce for wraps, and could be attributed to growing it the hydro garden. I think it was the Truchas variety that germinated. I'm going to try more in our indoor garden experiment under grow lights.

Only the Breen germinated, and it did well - albeit slow to grow harvesting at 50-60 days - in NFT hydroponics. No germination whatsoever for the Truchas which is what I would have preferred.

First time purchase from Park Seeds. Bought these to grow in my indoor hydrophonic system. Looks like every seed I planted has sprouted. Growing well. Should know in about 3 weeks how well they have done.

Excellent, until 1 people found this helpful

Started seed indoors, then out to greenhouse, then to raised bed. Growing nicely, had started picking individual leaves for small salads. Just when heads were ready to cut, the chipmunks helped themselves to the buffet and didn't leave leftovers. Planting again for fall, will keep covered and protected from critters. Excellent product, but I didn't intend to share.

a staple for summer 0 people found this helpful

I live in Zone 6a, where the summers can get very hot. I've had very near perfect germination with mini romaine, and they grow to maturity quickly-- so I start seeds throughout the growing season, place them wherever I have a bit of extra room, and always have some beautiful little bi-color romaine leaves to add to my salads. They hold up admirably under the blazing full sun and remain crispy and tasty.

My tricolor was badically just red leaf lettuce with some green at the bade. Nice, tight, crunchy and tastly little heads. Grew them all winter alongside Butterhead Bkenx in a covered bed with a canvas blanket to protect them from frost. Zone 9b

Confusing directions 0 people found this helpful
Directions say need exposure to light to germinate but also says plant 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. Conflicting directions

Tried these last year and had excellent results. Nicely formed small romaine heads, just the right size for one or two people. Germinated well in the ground and grew quickly in lovely little rows of my raised bed. Ordering again.
