Description / Narcissus Award Winning Deer Resistant Blend Daffodil Bulbs
Each bulb in this mix has won the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit
The Narcissus Award Winning Deer Resistant Blend is a carefully curated collection of five daffodil varieties. This blend is designed to provide an extended season of vibrant blooms, beginning in early spring and lasting through late spring. Starting with the petite Little Gem in early spring, followed by Jet Fire, Minnow, Kokopelli, and Segovia in mid-spring, and culminating with Sun Disc in late spring, this mix ensures that your garden remains a riot of color for weeks on end. Despite their somewhat diminutive size, these daffodils make a big impact with their stunning, award-winning blooms and delightful fragrances that attract pollinators, including butterflies and hummingbirds, while also creating bountiful bouquets for your home.
These Narcissus varieties, commonly known as daffodils, have an upright, clumping habit and grow to heights ranging from 5 inches to 12 inches. They are excellent naturalizers, multiplying easily to form sprawling clumps of long, flat, strap-like leaves topped with showy blooms that return year after year. In ideal conditions, with adequate space, sunlight, water, and fertilizer, these daffodils can thrive for decades, providing consistent beauty and charm to your garden each spring.
This deer-resistant blend is highly versatile, making it perfect for planting in groups or masses to create striking displays in mixed beds, front borders, or patio pots. The daffodils are particularly effective when planted in large sweeping drifts across open areas, under deciduous trees, or in smaller groupings in front of shrubs. They also mix beautifully with ground covers and other spring-blooming bulbs, adding layers of texture and color to your garden. Additionally, these daffodils can be forced indoors, bringing their cheerful blooms and pleasant fragrances into your home during the winter months.
Cold-hardy to USDA Zone 3, the Narcissus Award Winning Deer Resistant Blend is incredibly easy to grow and maintain, making it a foolproof choice for gardeners of all experience levels. These daffodils perform best in sunny to partly shady locations with rich, fertile, well-draining soil that has a neutral to acidic pH. They are well-suited to areas with cool winters and warm, dry summers but can adapt to a wide range of USDA Zones as long as there is a discernible winter.
When planting, space the bulbs about 4 inches apart and plant them 4 inches deep to ensure they have enough room to grow and multiply. Water the daffodils during their growth period, but avoid overwatering, as bulbs do not tolerate soggy conditions. To encourage robust flowering, feed the bulbs with a balanced fertilizer, such as Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food, as soon as growth begins in the spring. After the flowers have bloomed, allow the foliage to die back naturally, this process is essential for storing energy in the bulbs for the next season's growth. Once the leaves have fully faded, they can be cut back.
With their deer-resistant nature and relatively pest-free status, the Narcissus Award Winning Deer Resistant Blend offers a low-maintenance, high-impact solution for a beautiful spring garden that returns year after year. Whether you're looking to create a stunning garden display or enjoy their beauty indoors, this blend offers the perfect combination of resilience, fragrance, and extended bloom time.
