Description / Anemone 'Meron Bordeaux' Windflower Bulbs
Bring drama and elegance to your garden with Anemone 'Meron Bordeaux.' Plant these bulbs in fall (warm climates) or early spring after the last frost (cold climates) and enjoy stunning blooms in late spring to early summer. The velvety, poppy-like flowers feature a deep purple center and dark maroon petals with a shimmering, almost black appearance. Reaching up to 12 to 18 inches tall, they make exquisite cut flowers and are a favorite among pollinators like butterflies.
Part of the Anemone coronaria family, these wind flowers are rhizomatous perennials (Zones 7-10) with clumping green foliage. Perfect as a low-growing ground cover, they thrive in woodland and rock gardens, as well as in containers and decorative pots. For the best effect, plant 'Meron Bordeaux' in sweeping drifts of about 16 bulbs per square foot or mix them with late-blooming tulips and daffodils for a gorgeous spring display.
'Meron Bordeaux' wind flowers are easy to grow, thriving in sunny spots with well-draining soil but tolerating light shade in hot climates. Fertilize in spring when foliage emerges, and enjoy their resistance to deer and rabbits for hassle-free gardening.
Prepare the corms by soaking them in lukewarm water for several hours or overnight before planting them 2 to 3 inches deep and 3 to 6 inches apart. In Zones 3-6, lift the bulbs in fall to store them indoors for the winter. Add bold, sophisticated color to your garden with 'Meron Bordeaux.'
