Description / Begonia Fimbriata Red and Orange Blend Bulbs
Fimbriata Red and Orange Blend begonias are tuberous plants that grow to about 18 inches tall and 18 inches wide. These long-blooming begonias produce large, fringed double flowersruffled and highly fragrantin assorted red and orange colors, set against dark, veined green foliage for a stunning display.
This blend includes Begonia x tuberhybrida varieties, commonly known as hybrid tuberous begonias, native to Bolivia and Peru. Tender perennials in Zones 9-10, they're usually grown as annuals or houseplants in cooler areas. Their mounded habit makes them ideal for containers, window boxes, and small gardens.
Fimbriata Red and Orange Blend begonias grow best in partially shady spots with some sun but can tolerate full shade. The best flowering happens with morning sun in warmer climates. They prefer slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5-6.5) rich in organic matter and kept evenly moist, yet well-draining to prevent tuber rot. Removing wilted flowers and leaves encourages more blooms. These begonias are also deer resistant.
Plant the bulbs in groups in warmed spring soil after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them 8 to 14 inches apart and 1 to 2 inches deep. In northern areas, start tubers indoors in late winter or early spring to have blooms by summer. Note that begonias may struggle in hot regions like the Deep South and in arid conditions such as the desert Southwest, requiring special care to thrive.
