Description / Gladiolus 'My Love' Bulbs
'My Love' is a stunning large-flowering gladiolus that stands 36 to 48 inches tall, adding vertical beauty to any summer garden. Each flower spike is adorned with unique white blooms streaked with magenta pink splotches and stitches, reminiscent of peppermint candies. These ruffled, candy-striped flowers are perfect for cutting and make refreshing additions to summer bouquets or mixed arrangements.
A Gladiolus x hortulanus variety, also known as gladiolus, glads, or sword lilies, 'My Love' is a tender perennial in Zones 7-10. Plant it in clusters or masses in beds, borders, containers, or rock gardens for maximum impact. This tall variety may require staking in windy areas to keep its elegant flower spikes upright.
'My Love' gladiolus is easy to grow and thrives in sunny to lightly shaded spots with rich, well-draining soil. Amend sandy or clay-heavy soils with organic materials like bark or peat moss to improve moisture retention and drainage. Fertilize sparingly after planting and again in summer to encourage healthy growth and blooms. Water thoroughly at planting and consistently throughout the growing season, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Mulch to conserve moisture and stabilize soil temperature.
Plant 'My Love' gladiolus bulbs in spring after frost danger has passed, spacing them 4 to 6 inches apart and planting them 4 to 6 inches deep. For continuous blooms, stagger plantings every two weeks throughout spring. After blooming, allow the foliage to grow until it browns or frost threatens. Lift, clean, and store the corms in a cool, dry place (40-50°F) for winter.
