Description / Liatris White Blazing Star Bulbs
Liatris White Blazing Star is a summer-blooming native wildflower that grows 24 to 48 inches tall, with some reaching up to 6 feet in natural settings. These tall flower spikes are adorned with button-like white blooms and slender, grass-like foliage, adding striking vertical interest to your garden in July and August. Nectar rich and subtly fragrant, the flowers attract a host of pollinators, including native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, while the seeds that follow are a favorite of songbirds. Perfect for fresh and dried arrangements, these feathery blossoms are also a florist's favorite.
A Liatris spicata variety, commonly known as blazing star or gayfeather, White Blazing Star is a hardy perennial (Zones 3-9) that naturally thrives in meadows and low-lying wet areas. Its bold spikes create stunning displays when planted en masse, making it an essential addition to pollinator gardens, perennial beds, and naturalized areas.
Low maintenance and drought tolerant once established, White Blazing Star thrives in sunny locations with well-draining soil that is neutral to slightly acidic. It stands up to summer heat and humidity, ensuring reliable blooms season after season.
For best results, plant White Blazing Star bulbs in spring, 1½ to 2 inches deep and 18 inches apart.
Liatris spicata is native to the eastern United States, making it a beautiful and eco-friendly choice for your garden. These plants are adapted to local climates, thriving without fertilizers or excess watering once established. They naturally deter pests, reduce pesticide needs, and support biodiversity, creating a haven for wildlife and pollinators.
