Description / Snaptini™ Mix Dwarf Snapdragon Seeds
Days to Maturity: 70 to 96
Snaptini™ Mix, multicolored dwarf snapdragons, are tender perennials in the South, usually grown as annuals, offering spring, late spring, and fall interest in warmer climates (blooming as long as temperatures stay above freezing), and they offer summer interest in cool summer climates. Classic cottage garden favorites, the long-blooming plants flower for months in charming large, tubular, two-lipped flowers in eye-catching colors. Borne in terminal racemes on erect spikes, the nectar-filled flowers emit a fragrance, attract bumble bees and hummingbirds, and make excellent cut flowers.
The herbaceous plants have a bushy, upright, mounding habit, only growing about 6 to 8 inches high and wide. Shown to best effect when grouped, they add wonderful texture and vibrant color to border fronts, edgings, patio pots, and window boxes.
Easily grown from seed, the plants prefer full sun to dappled shade and organically rich, moist, well-drained soils but are adaptable to a wide range of soils, including chalk, sand, and loam. Avoid overhead watering. No pinching is needed, but deadheading spent flowers encourages new blooms. They are deer resistant and somewhat drought tolerant.
Start seeds indoors 6 to 10 weeks before transplanting outdoors. In spring, transplant after the last frost, as soon as the soil can be worked, when day and night temperatures range between 66 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
