Showy double blooms of deep maroon are the calling card for this floriferous, pest-free and shade-loving perennial. Like most of its kind, this helleborus thrives in partial to deep shade and livens up those quieter areas of the garden which so often get overlooked due to lack of color. Those rich wine-colored flowers are some of the first on the scene at the awakening of Spring and come out in large number too. The lush clumps of textured foliage are a fine backdrop to the blooms and will stay verdant and attractive all year long. These plants are tough, deer- and rabbit-resistant, and work well grown en mass as well as in containers.

Helleborus do not like being moved, so make sure the site you choose for them will not be disturbed for years.
Trim foliage to the ground in winter so that the flowers receive your full attention.
Do not consume any part of this plant as it is harmful if ingested and can also irritate the skin.
