Description / Durango® Mixture French Marigold Seeds
Days to Maturity: 49 to 56
The varieties in Durango® Mixture French Marigold Seeds are annuals offering spring through summer interest. Early and abundant blooming, the plants set firm, uniform, anemone-like, 2-inch blooms in shades of golden yellow, tangerine, red, and bicolor. Borne singly or in clusters on strong stems, the fragrant flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, have a long vase life, and can be dried for everlasting arrangements.
Durango® Mixture French Marigold Seeds contain Tagetes patula varieties, also known as dwarf anemone French marigolds. The plants have excellent branching and a uniform, upright, compact habit of aromatic, finely divided, bushy foliage and a vigorous growth rate. Shown to best effect when massed or grouped, dwarf anemone French marigolds are perfect for beds, borders, and containers. Best known for repelling insects in the garden, French marigolds are often grown alongside perennials and vegetables as they repel whiteflies and kill bad nematodes.
Easy to grow, these marigolds prefer full sun and average, evenly moist, well-drained soil. They are high heat and frost tolerant, generally pest and disease free, and deer resistant. Although marigolds are low maintenance plants, pinching off the tops of established plants results in bushier plants with a heavier bloom and deadheading regularly encourages and prolongs flowering.
Direct sow marigold seed after the last frost and as soon as the soil is warm in spring or start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost and transplant after all threat of frost has passed.
If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
