All-America Selections (AAS) Ornamental Winner 2025
A member of the Shake™ series of genetically compact hybrid petunias (without Plant Growth Regulators), Shake™ Raspberry is a super-compact and contained annual plant that grows between 5 to 8 inches tall and between 8 to 10 inches wide. A multiflora F1 hybrid, Shake Raspberry produces somewhat smaller flowers than grandifloras but they appear in great numbers. The 1½ to 2-inch funnel-shaped flowers have unique color-contrasting swirls in varying pattern and shades of red carmine rose and lemon-lime, from pale to intense. They hold up well throughout the season, creating big splashes of color from early summer to first frost, attracting pollinators, including butterflies.
A Petunia multiflora cultivar, commonly called petunia, Shake Raspberry can be grown as an annual in almost any Zone (2-11). It's perfect in containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets but makes great low edging or ground cover in beds and borders, especially in small-space gardens. Sometimes called "nature's pesticide", petunias repel asparagus beetles, leafhoppers, tomato worms, a range of aphids, and many other pests in the vegetable or perennial garden.
Easy to grow and low maintenance, Shake Raspberry petunia grows best in a sunny to lightly shady location with average, medium moist, freely draining soil. It stands up to heat and rain and is virtually disease and pest free and deer resistant. Fertilize petunias regularly for best flowering.
Shake Raspberry petunia seeds can be direct sown after the last frost into warm spring soil, with 10- to 12-inch spacing. Or seeds can be started indoors 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost and transplanted after all threat of frost has passed.
If you want to start your Shake Raspberry petunia seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
This seed comes as a pellet. Pelleted seeds are small seeds that have been clay-coated to make them larger and more uniform in size and shape, making them easier to handle when planting.
