  • Description / Dahlia Vancouver Blend Bulbs

Dahlia Vancouver Blend varieties are dinnerplate dahlias growing 24 to 36 inches tall, blooming from late summer to early fall and sometimes until the first frost. This unique blend includes two standout varieties: Avignon® and 'Vancouver'. Together, they create a harmonious multicolor display that's just as stunning in the garden as it is in a bouquet. Plus, the more blooms you cut, the more the plants will produce—just wait until the flowers are nearly fully open before cutting for the best results.

Vancouver Blend dahlias are tender perennials (Zones 9-11) with a clump-forming, upright habit. These versatile plants are perfect for garden beds, borders, or large containers and look incredible when planted en masse. As tall plants with large blooms, they may need staking or caging to keep their flowers upright and looking their best.

Easy to grow, these dahlias thrive in sunny spots with nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. Improve heavy clay or sandy soils with organic materials like peat moss or bark for optimal results. Water thoroughly at planting and maintain consistent watering during the growing season, ensuring moisture reaches the roots but doesn't leave them waterlogged. Pinch stems back at 8 to 10 inches tall, trim taller stems, and fertilize in spring and late summer for lush, bushy plants with more blooms. Add mulch to keep the soil cool and moist, and divide tubers in the fall to enjoy these dahlias year after year.

Plant tubers outdoors in warm spring soil after frost danger has passed, spacing them 18 to 24 inches apart and planting them 3 inches deep. For a jumpstart, plant tubers indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost date in small pots with potting soil. Transplant outdoors once frost is no longer a concern.

NOTE: In Zones 3-7, lift the tubers before the first frost in dry peat moss or vermiculite at 50°F. Or grow Vancouver Blend as annuals for colorful blooms in any zone.
