Description / Hydrangea 'Alice'
Hydrangea 'Alice' is one of the largest oakleaf hydrangeas in cultivation today, and it took the landscape and nursery industry by storm when it was introduced. This majestic upright, suckering deciduous shrub can grow up to 8 feet tall and wide, possibly larger in optimum growing conditions. So, in some locations, it may need pruning to keep it in bounds; otherwise, it's usually disease free and requires very little maintenance.
Although a little wild and uninhibited, Hydrangea 'Alice' is considered a superior selection of oakleaf. It has a long bloom period, producing oodles of large pyramidal flower panicles, up to 14 inches long, on arching stems, perfect for summer floral arrangements. After the flowers open, they turn from white to an attractive pink. In fall, they fade to tan and look stunning resting against the deeply lobed, oak-like burgundy fall foliage and exfoliating textured stems exposing the rich cinnamon brown inner bark, an attractive winter feature.
This upright, broad-rounded deciduous shrub looks stunning planted as an informal hedge or clustered in a woodland area. It also works well as a specimen or accent plant. Plant in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained soil and mulch around its base.
This is a potless item. Your plant will arrive in a poly bag. The root ball has been grown in a hexagonal design to minimize transplant shock and stress, and it is in an advanced stage of rooting to maximize transplant success. Follow the bare root planting and care instructions, but do not soak.
