  • Description / Moody Blues® Dark Blue Speedwell

Blooming right up until first frost, Dark Blue is a member of the Moody Blues® series of compact, very long-blooming Veronicas. Boasting less foliage and more color than other varieties, the Moody Blues® Dark Blue Speedwell are tireless workers right up until cold weather nips them back!

Beginning in late spring in most climates, gorgeous bloom wands or deep blue to royal purple arise above the fresh green foliage on compact, well-branched plants. Sweetly fragrant, Moody Blues® Dark Blue Speedwell continue all summer and into fall, making fine companions to all other perennials in the sunny border.

Great as a cutflower, container specimen, or source of front-of-the-border color, Moody Blues® Dark Blue Speedwell is a real treasure! Cut all the blooms you like for indoor arrangements: this will only encourage new buds to set all the faster!

And best of all, these flowers need no vernalization period to bloom, so you can enjoy a full season the first year you plant Dark Blue, as well as every year to follow -- no matter how short or mild your winter turns out to be!

This perennial appreciates full sunshine and good soil drainage. Amend the soil with compost, then feed and water well the first season. Once Moody Blues® Dark Blue Speedwell finds its feet in your garden, it is virtually carefree, though a good shearing after the first round of blooms will help it to repeat more profusely later in the season. Divide this plant every few years to rejuvenate the bloom strength, prevent crowding, and share the wealth among your gardening friends! Zones 6-9.
