Description / Dragonfly™ 'Sakura' Bergenia
Bergenia has been a garden favorite for years due to its incredibly hardy nature and attractive evergreen foliage. Dragonfly™ 'Sakura' Bergenia forms a low clump of green leaves that turn a lovely rich, plum purple (sometimes nearly black) color in winter. The thick, rubbery leaves make a "pig squeak" sound when rubbed between your fingers, leading to this perennial's popular nickname. And Dragonfly™ 'Sakura' Bergenia ups the beauty of the species by a power of ten by offering double-flowered blooms.
Spring brings semi-double to double pink blooms that are reminiscent of cherry blossoms ("Sakura" in Japanese, hence its name). They make beautiful, long-lasting cut flowers, and stand up nicely above the foliage, really showing off their intense color. The show continues for several weeks, and is truly breathtaking.
Dragonfly™ 'Sakura' Bergenia, a versatile Bergenia, is drought tolerant, typically unpalatable to deer, and happy in a wide range of soils. It's equally useful as a groundcover, a container plant, or grown along the edges of walkways and paths. It can be divided in spring or early fall. Don't miss this accommodating, somewhat unusual perennial for all your sunny to partly shady garden spots.
