Description / Delphinium Delgenius™ Neva Larkspur
Delgenius™ Neva is a member of the Delphinium Delgenius™ series, the result of over a decade of careful breeding. This enchanting plant is designed to bloom freely and continuously throughout spring and summer. With its multiflowered stems of grand creamy white double blooms, Neva creates a romantic spectacle that is sure to attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The flowers also make an excellent addition to any floral arrangement.
A variety of Delphinium x hybridus, commonly known as the candle larkspur or delphinium, Neva is an herbaceous perennial with a compact, upright silhouette. It boasts lush, heavily lobed dark green foliage and a rapid growth rate. Candle larkspur is ideally suited for container gardens but truly shines when grouped or massed in mixed beds and borders.
For optimal growth, plant larkspur in a sunny to partially shady spot with moist, fertile, well-drained loamy soils with a slight acidity, around a pH of 5.4 to 5.5. A pH higher than 6.0 may result in fewer blooms. While Neva has been bred for heat tolerance and strong stems, it may benefit from some afternoon shade, particularly in warmer climates, and protection from strong winds. As a heavy feeder, delphinium requires higher phosphate rates than most perennials and should be fed weekly during growth and flowering with a slow-release fertilizer. Spent flower spikes should be deadheaded back to the basal foliage to encourage reblooming. This plant is robust and resistant to deer.
