Delphinium 'Million Dollar Blue'

Nothing does vertical interest quite like Delphinium, and Million Dollar Blue really lives up to its name! It sets out sturdy spears covered in true blue semi-double blossoms beginning in early summer and ending in early fall. This Delphinium boasts dark green foliage which does well to compliment its flowers, making that vivid azure blue really 'POP'!

Delphiniums have long been a garden favorite, but they suffer from relatively short lives and a tendency to "flop." New Hybrid varieties (like Million Dollar Blue) live longer and have a stronger upright habit, without needing staking. 'Million Dollar Blue' is part of the New Millenium™ series of Delphium, which greatly expands on the benefits of hybrids. This series was bred by Terry Dowdeswell in New Zealand to have enhanced heat and humidity tolerance, coupled with the same cold tolerance Delphinium has long possessed. New Milleniums can grow at least as far south as Zone 7, and they also boast excellent form, vigorous growth habit, and rich, vibrant color.

Resistant to deer and rabbits, this variety is also quite mildew-resistant if given full sun and a little breathing room in the garden. Butterflies and hummingbirds flock to its blooms, so give it a place of prominence and enjoy those two seasons of bloom!

Amazingly vibrant in the garden, Million Dollar Blue does exceptionally well as cut flowers too, so feel free to snip those sturdy stalks and bring that touch of sky with you indoors! Zones 3-7.
