Description / Dicentra 'Luxuriant'
Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
An award winner and reliable performer, 'Luxuriant' is everblooming, typically from late spring to early fall. It produces sprays of nodding, heart-shaped cherry-red flowers held above fern-like, deeply lobed, gray-green foliage on long, leafless stems. The blooms attract hummingbirds and make lovely cut flowers.
It has a mounding habit, growing 15 inches tall and wide, shown to best effect when massed or grouped; but its extensive rhizome systems also spread to establish colonies. It is quite cold hardy and, given adequate moisture, more sun and heat tolerant than most bleeding-heart varieties. It is a very nice edging plant but can also be grown in a container.
