Description / Gold Flame Honeysuckle
Hummingbirds will flock to your home if you introduce this sweet scented, brilliantly colored climber. Light your garden on fire with 'Gold Flame!'
With bright hues of bright pink to crimson, this is not your average Honeysuckle. Its trumpet shaped blooms are held in clusters all over the plant, with inner circles and antlers of sunny yellow. The antlers stretch out beyond the petals, giving this climber a whole new dimension and shape.
The green vines are littered with glossy leaves, making for a brilliant color combination. The blooms appear in the late spring, and brighten up your garden oasis until frost. The vibrant blooms are followed by deep red berries that songbirds adore, adding a fourth season to its appeal.
'Gold Flame' is tolerable of just about any type of soil, and thrives in problem areas that most plants can't handle. Disease, pests, and even deer aren't a problem for this resilient Honeysuckle. It enjoys full sun or light shade and prefers dry conditions, but it very adaptable to stress.
Growing at a very fast rate, 'Gold Flame' is great for quick ground cover or any vertical structure. It reaches 12 to 20 feet long and 3 to 6 feet wide, and boasts blooms about 1 1/2 inches wide. Zones 5-9; Sunset zones 3-24, 30-35. Exuding the sweet honeysuckle scent that is the essence of summer for so many of us, this handsome plant will create a cottage garden ambiance in any sunny setting.
