Description / Heuchera 'Carnival Cocomint' Coral Bells
'Carnival Cocomint' is a cold hardy perennial that offers year-round interest, with blooms appearing early to late spring. Renowned for its stunning, intensely colored foliage, this evergreen (in warm climates) features petite, heavily textured leaves in lime green with dark veins and purple centers, with deepest hues emerging in the cooler temperatures of spring and fall. The showy spring sprays of dainty blossoms float above the foliage, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The flowers last a long time, making them ideal for floral arrangements.
As a Heuchera hybrid, commonly known as heuchera, coral bells, or alumroot, 'Carnival Cocomint' is a clumping-forming herbaceous plant with excellent vigor and a low, mounding habit, forming an attractive basal rosette of leaves. It is a versatile addition to both gardens and containers. For optimal effect, mass or group 'Carnival Cocomint'. It's an excellent edging plant for along paths or walkways and a mixed bedding plant, where its beauty can be complemented ferns, astilbe, geranium, hakonechloa, and hosta as companion plants.
This heuchera variety can handle temps down to -30°F and is easy to grow, requiring minimal care. It thrives in partially sunny to shady locations with average to fertile, medium-moist, loose, well-draining soil with a slightly alkaline pH, but it performs well in most soils.. Although somewhat drought-tolerant once established, consistent moisture is recommended, especially in sunnier spots in hot climates where afternoon shade can be beneficial. Mulching in late fall moderates soil temperature and prevents heaving, and deadheading faded flowers encourages additional blooms. Remove dead leaves in spring. 'Carnival Cocomint' exhibits heat tolerance and is resistant to deer. Avoid burying the crown of the plant during planting.
