Description / Climbing Hydrangea
"There is NO better climbing vine!" according to Donald Wyman, author of Wyman's Gardening encyclopedia. Try this one at home and we are sure you will be echoing those sentiments. This climbing form of the beloved Hydrangea is easy to grow and very lovely, covering ground vertically or horizontally with no tying or staking from you! Truly spectacular when in flower in midsummer, it climbs without support on walls, arbors, or trees, reaching 60 to 80 feet.
The glossy, deep green foliage is an elegant touch from spring until fall. Great clouds of lacecap flowers are beautiful in early summer. The shaggy, cinnamon-colored bark is striking and ornamental in winter. Ideal to grow up large trees, or on large brick walls facing north or east. Also effective as a groundcover, Climbing Hydrangea is easy, carefree, and very long-lived. It can be somewhat slow to establish, but once settled in, it makes excellent growth each year.
Climbing Hydrangea grows best in sun or partial shade and prefers moist soil. Zones 4-8.
