Description / Asclepias 'Soulmate' Milkweed
Bring charm and ecological value to your garden with Asclepias 'Soulmate,' a native perennial milkweed that grows 34 to 48 inches tall. This butterfly favorite blooms all summer with vanilla-scented clusters of white and rose-pink flowers, attracting pollinators, like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The blooms are excellent for fresh and dried arrangements, while the seedpods make a lovely addition to seasonal displays. Its lush foliage also provides essential food for monarch caterpillars, supporting their development.
Part of the Asclepias incarnata family, commonly called milkweed, swamp milkweed, or butterfly weed, 'Soulmate' thrives in Zones 3-9. Perfect for borders or planting near water features, it's a staple for butterfly gardens and can even thrive in containers.
'Soulmate' milkweed prefers full sun and medium to wet soils but adapts well to average garden soil if it stays moist, especially in spring. But it does have some drought tolerance once it is fully established. Naturally deer resistant, this low-maintenance plant is an easy addition to any garden.
Plant 'Soulmate' milkweed roots in spring, spacing them 24 to 28 inches apart and burying them 1½ to 2 inches deep. Once established, butterfly weed plants dislike being moved, so choose the site carefully.
Native to eastern and midwestern North America, 'Soulmate' milkweed is perfectly suited for local climates. These eco-friendly plants thrive with minimal care, reduce the need for fertilizers, and support wildlife and pollinators, creating a garden full of life and beauty.
Sap may cause skin irritation.
