'Karl Foster' is the first ornamental grass to receive the Perennial Plant of the Year Award in 2001 and now you can have it for your garden. It earned it's award for it's good looks, long lasting plumes, and undemanding growing requirements. It's green foliage grows in a neat clump. During the spring the stalks can rise up to six feet and are capped iwth elongated, wheat colored seed heads. In addition to its beauty, Feather Reed Grass exhibits tolerance for heavy clay and compact soil. Plant it in a sunny, dry location and use it as a backdrop for flowering perennials or plant it in mass and allow it to create a sea of motion. However you choose to use it, it will be a hit in your garden.
Calamagrostis x acutiflora ?Karl Foerster? was named in honor of the late great nurseryman, Karl Foerster (1874-1970). Mr. Foerster was responsible for introducing this grass, as well as many other acclaimed plants during his distinguished career in horticulture.
