6 Steps to Grow Your Potato Seeds

Growing potatoes from seed can be a rewarding process when you follow these steps: 

1. Choose the right potato seed variety

2. Prepare your soil
   Potatoes grow best in loose, well-draining soil that has been enriched with organic matter. Aim for a slightly acidic pH between 5.0 and 6.0. 

3. Plant your seeds
   Plant seed potatoes in rows, spacing them about 12 inches apart and burying them 3-4 inches deep. Be sure to cover them with soil and remove any weeds regularly to reduce competition for nutrients.

4. Water regularly
   Consistent moisture is key to healthy tuber development. Water deeply once or twice a week, adjusting based on weather conditions. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.

5. Hill your plants
   As the plants grow, mound additional soil around their base to cover developing tubers. This practice prevents your potatoes from becoming green and inedible.

6. Harvest your potatoes
   Your potatoes are ready to harvest when the plant's foliage begins to yellow and die back. Carefully dig up the tubers, allowing them to cure in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
