Description / Dasiphora Happy Face® Orange Potentilla
A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Dasiphora Happy Face® Orange is a low-growing native deciduous shrub. An outstanding potentilla, the shrub not only blooms continuously all season longfrom late spring to late fallbut also the flowers maintain their color, even through summer. And they attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds.
A Dasiphora fruticosa (previously Potenilla fruitcosa), commonly called potentilla, shrubby potentilla, or shrubby cinquefoil, Happy Face Orange has a compact, mounding habit and is often grown as a ground cover. It's an excellent specimen or container plant but is shown to best effect massed or grouped in mixed beds, borders, and foundation plantings.
Easy to grow and extremely cold hardyto Zone 2potentilla grows best in sunny to partly sunny locations with well-draining to dry soils having an alkaline pH, but it grows well in most soils. Happy Face Orange is drought and salt tolerant and has superb deer resistance.
A native plant, potentilla is indigenous to North America. Native plants are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. Naturally adapted to the climate and soil conditions of the region, they thrive without fertilizers or extra watering, once established. They also act as natural pest controls, reducing the need for pesticides in the garden. Landscaping with native plants promotes biodiversity and provides shelter and quality food for wildlife and pollinators, bringing gardens to life.
