Description / Buxus Neatball™ Boxwood
A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Neatball™ is a broadleaf evergreen shrub offering year-round interest. Neatball is an improved version of the classic 'Green Velvet'. It's grown for its tidy, dense globe-like habit of small deep-green leaves that hold their color through winter without bronzing or browning.
A Buxus microphylla, commonly called boxwood or boxwood littleaf, Neatball has a slow growth rate and a compact rounded habit. Neatball makes a great topiary or specimen, in garden or container, but is shown to best effect when massed or grouped in foundation plantings, mixed beds, borders, or in a low hedge.
Cold hardy and easy to grow, boxwood grows best in sunny to partly shady locations with evenly moist, well-draining soil having a slightly acidic to slightly alkaline pH. The shrub tolerates pruning well, but it should only be done after the last frost in spring to prevent frost damage on tender new shoots. Boxwood is heat tolerant as well as deer and disease resistant.
