Description / Hydrangea Powerball™ Panicle Hydrangea
A member of the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs series, Hydrangea Powerball™ Panicle Hydrangea is a compact deciduous shrub, reaching a mature size of 3 to 6 feet in height and width. Combining the resilience of panicle hydrangea (H. paniculata) with the full, rounded flowerheads of bigleaf hydrangea (H. macrophylla), Powerball™ delivers season-long beauty. Strong, sturdy stems hold up large blooms from early to late summer, transitioning from lime green to creamy white before taking on soft pink hues as they mature. Perfect for fresh or dried arrangements, these blooms add caramel-colored interest to the winter landscape if left on the plant.
A cultivar of Hydrangea paniculata, commonly known as panicle hydrangea, Powerball™ has a compact, upright form that fits well in smaller gardens or landscapes. This versatile hydrangea dazzles in mass plantings or grouped borders but also serves beautifully as a container specimen or foundation plant.
Powerball™ is easy to grow and among the most winter-hardy hydrangeas, tolerating conditions down to Zone 3. It performs best in full to partial sun with average, well-drained soil and adapts well to clay, making it a resilient, low-maintenance choice for a multitude of garden settings. Disease-resistant and robust, Powerball™ brings enduring charm and adaptability to your landscape.
When fall nights grow cooler, some panicle hydrangeas may reveal pink or red accents, an enchanting transformation that's natural and variable. In milder climates, expect blooms to stay closer to their original creamy tones.
