Description / Viburnum Spice Cowboy™ Snowball Bush
A member of the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs, Spice Cowboy™ Snowball Bush is an impressive shrub known for its show-stopping flowers, but it truly offers a complete package. Reaching a mature height of 6 to 10 feet and a width of 4 to 5 feet, this versatile plant can be grown as a large deciduous shrub or trained as a small tree, making it a flexible choice for various landscape designs. The spring display is spectacular, with large, snowball-like clusters of highly fragrant, spicy-sweet blooms that perfume the garden. Come fall, the green foliage transforms into brilliant orange-red hues, creating a breathtaking seasonal display.
Spice Cowboy is a Viburnum carlesii species, often referred to as snowball bush or Koreanspice viburnum. It boasts an upright growth habit and a fast growth rate, making it a striking specimen for beds, borders, and foundations. When mass planted, it forms an eye-catching, decorative flowering hedge.
This adaptable snowball bush thrives in sunny to partly sunny spots and performs well in most moist, well-draining soils, including clay. Cold hardy to Zone 4 and naturally deer resistant, it blooms on old wood, so pruning should be done right after flowering to preserve next season's buds.
