Description / Tecoma Chicklet® Gold Trumpet Bush
A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Tecoma Chicklet® Gold is a broadleaf evergreen shrub but can be thought of as a long-blooming trumpet vine in a non-invasive, compact shrub form. Blooming continuously from early summer to late fall, typically to first frost, the plant sets masses of bright yellow flowers. Nectar and pollen rich, the tubular flowers sustain pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and make cheery cut flowers.
A Tecoma stans variety, commonly called trumpet bush, yellow bells, esperanza (Spanish for hope), or trumpetflower, Chicklet Gold has a compact, upright habit. It makes an excellent specimen but is shown to best effect when grouped or massed in beds and borders or as a hedge. In cold winter climates, plants can be grown in patio pots and overwintered indoors as houseplants.
An easy-grow, easy-care plant, trumpet bush grows best in sunny locations with fertile, organically rich, well-drained to dry soil. Chicklet is drought and heat tolerant and deer resistant. Deadheading encourages new blooms. Any desired pruning should be done after flowering.
A native plant, trumpet bush is indigenous to North America. Native plants are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. Naturally adapted to the climate and soil conditions of the region, they thrive without fertilizers or extra watering, once established. They also act as natural pest controls, reducing the need for pesticides in the garden. Landscaping with native plants promotes biodiversity and provides shelter and quality food for wildlife and pollinators, bringing gardens to life.
