Description / Delphinium Giant Cottage Style Mixed Larkspur
Delphinium Giant Cottage Style Mixed Larkspur delivers a stunning mix of pink, lavender, red, white, and yellow flowers, offering a grower's choice blend that delights in every garden. These towering plants grow 3 to 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide, making a bold statement in any landscape. Blooming in summer and again in fall, their vibrant spikes attract hummingbirds and butterflies while adding vertical charm to garden beds and borders.
These Delphinium varieties, often referred to as larkspur, thrive as hardy perennials in Zones 3-7 but can also be grown as annuals in warmer climates. Their dramatic flower spikes are ideal for cottage gardens, cutting gardens, and as a striking backdrop for mixed borders.
Larkspurs grow best in areas with cool summers. Plant them in a sunny to partly shaded spot with fertile, well-draining soil and a pH close to neutral. Regular watering is essential to maintain consistent moisture, and a layer of mulch will keep the soil cool and damp. In warmer regions, provide afternoon shade to keep plants healthy. Stake plants early when they reach 12 inches tall to prevent stems from bending or breaking under the weight of the blooms. After the first bloom, trim back faded flower spikes to the base to encourage a second blooming period later in the season. These deer- and rabbit-resistantplants are as low maintenance as they are beautiful.
For best results, plant larkspur roots in spring, setting them 1½ to 2 inches deep and spacing them 18 to 24 inches apart. Note: Delphiniums are toxic if ingested. Keep them away from children and pets.
