Description / Helleborus Frostkiss® Cheryl's Shine®
Cheryl's Shine® Hellebore, from the Frostkiss® series, is a captivating evergreen perennial that brings beauty to the garden year-round. As one of the earliest bloomers in the series, Cheryl's Shine displays abundant, light-pink blooms with a hint of coral and vibrant yellow stamens, adding color and charm through the winter. These 2- to 3-inch flowers, slightly nodding atop deep-red stems, rise above a dense rosette of marbled green foliage. With nectar-rich blooms that support early pollinators, Cheryl's Shine is as beneficial to bees as it is striking in winter landscapes or fresh bouquets.
A hybrid of Helleborus known commonly as hellebore or Lenten rose, Cheryl's Shine grows with moderate to vigorous speed, forming a graceful upright, mounding shape. This versatile perennial is well-suited to mixed container plantings and garden beds alike, and it shines when planted en masse in borders or as ground cover. Slowly spreading through rhizomes, Cheryl's Shine remains tidy and non-invasive, making it an ideal choice for shaded spots under deciduous trees or large shrubs, where it gains protection from winter winds.
Low-maintenance and adaptable, Cheryl's Shine thrives in a range of soils, including chalk, clay, and loam, as long as they are well-drained. For optimal growth, plant in dappled shade with moist, nutrient-rich soil and a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Once established, this hellebore resists deer, rabbits, and drought, though it should be shielded from overly wet conditions. In milder summer climates, it can even enjoy full sun, provided its roots stay cool, making it a resilient choice for both new and seasoned gardeners.
