Description / Helleborus Frostkiss® Vibey Velvet™
Vibey Velvet™, part of the Frostkiss® series, is a resilient evergreen perennial that provides year-round color and texture to the garden. Growing to 12 to 18 inches in height and width, this hellebore bursts into a spectacular winter bloom with smaller but plentiful flowers compared to others in the series. Each rich, dark red flower, tinged with burgundy flecks, is held singly on long, sturdy deep-red stems above a dense base of leathery, variegated foliage. These nectar-rich blooms support early pollinators and are perfect for winter floral arrangements, lasting beautifully in the garden or as cut flowers.
A Helleborus hybrid, commonly known as hellebore or Lenten rose, Vibey Velvet features moderate to vigorous growth and an upright, mounded habit that adds structure and versatility to the landscape. This variety makes a striking statement as a standalone plant in garden beds or containers, though it truly shines when planted en masse in borders. Its gentle, non-invasive spread through rhizomes makes Vibey Velvet an ideal ground cover, particularly under high-branched trees or large shrubs where it gains protection from winter weather.
Low-maintenance and easy to grow, Vibey Velvet thrives in a range of soils, including chalk, clay, and loam, but flourishes best in dappled shade with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil that's neutral to slightly alkaline. In regions with milder summers, this hellebore can also handle full sun as long as the roots stay cool. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and resistant to deer and rabbits, making Vibey Velvet a beautiful and dependable addition to any garden.
